Non-GMO Seeds for the Perfect Veggie Garden & What to Do With Them
I have been obsessed with the idea of growing my own vegetables for some time now. It all started when I was given a slab of ‘Sow Delicious’ 100% Heirloom Exotic Tomatoes. I have been waiting patiently for July so that I can plant them. I had been browsing the selection of seed slabs on Faithful-to-Nature for a while to decide what else I wanted to grow, there are so many options.
While looking through the seed selection on the website I found the ‘Reel Gardening’ seed company that also does really cool seed packs.
So that is my goal for the end of July, build and plant a vegetable garden leading into summer time. There will be a detailed post closer to the time when I start that process.
I also recently bought one of the ‘Reel Gardening’ Autumn Bee Food seed boxes because it is important to help the bees in Autumn and Winter.
I have started germinating the seeds. It is a bit cold to plant them directly in the soil so I have started with cotton wool and will plant them as soon as they are strong enough.
Germinating my @reel_gardening bee food flowers tonight. It’s finally autumn so time to get them growing. Tomorrow they go out into the windowsill to catch the sun rays. My chilli plant it already outside in the garden. Photos will follow tomorrow when the suns up. #reelgardening #beefood #autumnflowers #savingthebees #beegarden #poppy #pea #borage
Honey Bees collect nectar from flowers and convert it into honey to feed their larvae. They store all their honey for winter to make sure that the hive survives. If they don’t have enough honey or access to flowers during this time, they starve and die.
We really can’t have bees dying so this tiny box of seeds is perfect to help the bees find food in your garden. Bees have incredible senses and find nectar by seeking out flowers of a specific colour. “Reel Gardening’ has selected three flowering plants for the autumn bee garden; Borage, Garden Peas and Poppies.
The Bee Food seedbox has 6 seeds in it, two of each flower. The best part is that a portion of the sales goes towards The Bee Effect.
It is really exciting to know that just this one small change is enough to help the bees survive the cold South African winters.
I will keep you posted on the progress of my bee food garden on Instagram and of course, post an update here once the flowers have sprouted and are fully matured.
Below are some of the things to expect from my latest seed haul.
Sow Delicious 100% heirloom Exotic Tomatoes
- Black Krim
- Green Zebra
Reel Gardening Bee Food (Autumn)
Reel Gardening Herb Windowsill Garden
- Marigold (Companion Flower)
I hope this inspires you to start your own bee and GMO-Free veggie gardens. If you want to buy these seeds (and so many more) check out Faithful-to-Nature here.
