How To Treat Bruxism Using Vitamins and Tinctures
Bruxism is a maddening ailment! Anyone who has ever experienced it will tell you just how horrible it can be. Some people don’t even know they are doing it until their dentist tells them.
It can be caused by stress or anxiety and is very common, more common than you could imagine! I have been following multiple YouTubers, many of whom suffer from Bruxism. For them, it is easy to go to the doctor and get botox injected into their jaw muscles. They all rave about how it works but have to go back every 6 to 8 weeks to keep it under control.
To me that seems excessive, they seem to be treating the symptoms instead of the cause. Not to mention the costs involved!
My struggles with Bruxism started about three years ago when I had a serious breakup. Over time it has flared up during stressful moments in life with the latest occurrence being the longest. It is pure agony and not to mention, killing my poor teeth in the process.
Before running off to the dentist for a fitted plate (a huge financial cost), I thought I would treat it by focussing on the cause. Through meditation, white noise and yoga, my stress levels seem to be dissipating but the grinding is still a regular occurrence. I did some research and found that using vitamins, minerals and tinctures can also be a great benefit.
So far, I seem to be having great success with these.
According to Dr Axe, a combination of these vitamins can have given good results.
Vitamin B-Complex is made up of the eight B Vitamins which include B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. These all play a vital role in the functioning of the human body. It helps to boost production of new cells, strengthen the immune system, increase blood cell production and oxygen capacity, reduce ageing and so much more.
These vitamins help with Bruxism by aiding in fighting psychological stress, depression and panic attacks. It brings about balance within the body which is vital when trying to soothe the mind.
Vitamin C is hugely beneficial to our stress management. It is used by the adrenal glands, which affects the response to stress. It also plays a major role in creating dopamine, the happy hormone.
Vitamin C is present in many fruits as well. Thankfully one can never have too much, the body just flushes any excess.
I take the Vitamin C and Vitamin B-Complex tablets in the morning with breakfast.
Magnesium deficiency often gets diagnosed through anxiety, irritability, insomnia, restlessness and hyperactivity. It helps fight these issues quite effectively which is why it is part of my nightly routine.
You can also get magnesium through an Epsom Salt bath. Taking the magnesium every night has really made a difference in my sleeping pattern and on nights when I do the bath as well, boy does my sleep end up being super restful!
You have to be careful with Magnesium though unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, you should never take more than 350mg at a time. For children, it is much less! Always consult a medical professional before taking any medications.
Valerian Root Tincture
First off I would like to start by saying YUCK!!! This stuff is phenomenal but it tastes dreadful.
Valerian Root is a natural sedative that has been used for centuries. It is perfect to help lull you off to sleep. The bottle recommends 10 to 20 drops at a time but I take about 5 right before bed. I first dropped it directly on my tongue, big mistake! One drop nearly sizzled the life out of my taste buds. It is better to dilute it with some water and down it quickly.
A tincture is an alcohol-based product that helps deliver the benefits of herbs as quickly as possible. It is also available in a capsule but you tend to spend a bit more on those. It is recommended to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery as it can cause drowsiness.
I bought all of the vitamins from Clicks, they often have them on the buy 2 get 1 free deals, sadly I missed out this time. The tincture came from Dischem and was far more affordable than its pill variation.
